I’ve been humbled to serve in the Hawai’i State legislature. In an economically challenging time, I had the opportunity to work on a State Budget that was balanced but protects the most vulnerable among our residents as a member of the Finance Committee.  My other assignments–Labor & Public Employment, Public Safety, and Transportation– also allowed me to work on issues important to the 9th District (Paia- Spreckelsville- Puunene- Kahului- Wailuku) where Maui’s college, hospital, commercial harbor and airport are located.

Growing up in Paia and Kahului, I learned from my grandparents and parents three simple rules: work hard, stay in school and respect others. They stressed the importance of shared connections with others within our family, our neighborhood and our home island. We all have a stake in what happens as members of this one community.

I believe in the common values that flow from mutual obligations we owe to each other: honesty, integrity and respect. While we as a State and a people face challenging times, I would welcome the opportunity and challenge to continue serving Maui and the State of Hawaii in the legislature. For that reason, I’m humbly asking for your help.
